Porsche teases undisguised Macan SUV

Porsche has released teaser images of its forthcoming Macan SUV, ahead of its official debut at the Los Angeles motor show next month.

The new compact sports 4×4 will go head to head with sportier versions of the Audi Q5 and BMW X1, but like its Cayenne big brother, is likely to offer a more involving driving experience.

It largely follows the design theme of the larger Cayenne, too, with a gaping front grille, sloping roofline and similar light clusters front and rear.

Specification details have yet to be fully confirmed but the Macan is expected to be offered with a range of 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid with ultra-low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions may also join the line-up.

Topping the range will be the Turbo model, likely to be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, developing around 400bhp.

The Macan will be offered with Porsche’s excellent PDK twin-clutch automatic transmissions, alongside a conventional manual option. Power will be sent to all-four wheels, with the majority being sent to the rear axle for a more dynamic drive in normal road conditions.

The Porsche Macan goes into production in December, with the first customer cars expected for delivery early next year.
