The shocking incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The video shows a Nissan Qashqai partly submerged in the middle of a lake.

Two men and a woman can be seen wading out to rescue the vehicle’s occupants. It appears they are unable to open the door, so they resort to banging on the window in an attempt to break it.

Eventually, the trio managed to open the back door and pull the elderly man – and his dog – to safety.

Witnesses say that there was a loud crunching sound before the car entered the lake, and that the rescuers didn’t hesitate to jump in once it was clear there was someone in the 4×4.

A man in his 70s from nearby Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, was taken to hospital but was believed to be uninjured. The cause of the crash is unknown.
