New Tesla software adds Apple Watch feature

Tesla has given its Model S electric car a remarkable update which allows Apple Watch users to remotely reverse their car out of a garage.

Though the Tesla’s ability to be controlled by a smartphone has been well covered, this is the first time that it has been optimised for the Apple Watch.

By using their watch, owners can have their vehicle remotely open the garage door before autonomously reversing out of it. It also takes away the need to have a key nearby, as the Keyless Start in the watch’s app allows for the car to start without it.

According to Tesla, this technology will one day mean that the car will be able to “drive across the country to meet you, charging itself along the way.”

This latest feature is a component of the car’s Autopilot system, which includes modes such as Autosteer, Auto Lane Change, Auto Park and Automatic Emergency Steering. All of these features help the car accelerate, parallel park and change lanes on its own, among others.
