Mums post pictures of bad parkers on Facebook

With the school run back in full swing, the roads outside schools are once again littered with badly parked cars. One group of mums is so annoyed by irresponsibly parked parents that they’ve created a Facebook group to name and shame the worst offenders.

The group has posted up more than a hundred images of cars that have been abandoned by parents right in front of the school gates, across junctions, blocking pedestrian crossings, across the pavement… After taking a photo the parents then leave a note on the car informing drivers that they will be publicly shamed on the site.

The group of parents who’ve taken to posting images on the People who Park like Prats page all have children who attend Horndean infant or juniors schools in Waterlooville in Hampshire and started the Facebook community due to concerns over their children’s safety. This group has now received more than 360 likes.

One mum-of-three, who helped set up the group told The News, Portsmouth: “I have three boys, we live a mile from the school and we walk. Quite a few of us do.

It’s so pointless because there is so much parking nearby. We can’t get over people who would rather drive around and around for 10 minutes looking for somewhere to park when they could park half a mile away and walk it.

“The only time we’d drive is if it’s raining. We all became fed up with the parking from parents who dumped their cars on yellow lines, junctions and the zig-zags.”

This mum who wanted to remain anonymous continued: “We take photos as discreetly as possible because people can be quite aggressive. I have been involved in a couple of road-rage incidents.”

“One woman yelled at me ‘what are you looking at?’ I told her she was parking illegally on the yellow zig-zags. She got in her car, followed us up the road, and did not see my son on his scooter when she swerved in to try to stop us walking away. She nearly ran my son over. People don’t take to it kindly.”

Another mum added: “It’s so pointless because there is so much parking nearby. We can’t get over people who would rather drive around and around for 10 minutes looking for somewhere to park when they could park half a mile away and walk it. I can’t believe the laziness and disregard for people’s safety.”

Parking restrictions around the school have been repainted and extended previously while additional notices warning drivers not to park in these areas have also been installed.
