Man proposes to girlfriend…in a SEAT dealership

April 23, 2013 | By | In News

Think of all the places you’d consider proposing to your other half: Where you first met, the Eiffel tower, on a Caribbean beach – the list of perfect locations is endless.

Or not, as it happens. A Lincolnshire man has decided that originality is best and has popped the big question at a SEAT dealership in South Hykeham.

Unconventional romantic Wayne Thompson thought it would be a good idea to take to one knee as he and his girlfriend popped in to take delivery of their new SEAT Ibiza Toca.

Staff at the dealership were happy to accommodate his amorous intentions, even providing a faux ‘MARRY ME’ number plate for the car. Even so, Thompson did have to tell some little white lies for his plan to work.

“I had to say I was going to the gym that afternoon, when in reality I was at the dealership sorting out all the arrangements,” he said.

“I hope she’ll forgive me that one!”

The lucky girl, Melissa Grant, said: “I couldn’t believe it, I had absolutely no idea what he had planned.

“When we walked into the showroom I was greeted by my boyfriend on one knee, flowers, champagne and an engagement ring – those were optional extras I hadn’t ordered with the car!”

The pair have yet to set a date for the big day, though are planning to get hitched some time in 2015. When asked about possible honeymoon locations, Thompson said: “Look no further than Ibiza. Of course, I might be lying.”
