Kia releases photos of 2016 Sportage

Kia has released the first official photos of its new Sportage SUV, ahead of its launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.

Now in its fourth-generation, the Sportage is slightly longer than the outgoing model with the width and height remaining the same.

It now features longer front and shorter rear overhangs, reducing drag and making it the most aerodynamic Sportage to date.

Inside, the cabin has been completely revamped and features a wide, driver-oriented dashboard with a simple design. This is divided into two clear zones – Display and Control.

The Display zone focuses on delivering information to occupants via the driver’s instrument binnacle. Meanwhile, the Control zone is found below the clear line running the length of the dashboard and offers a layout to maximise productivity. The functions are designed to be clearly visible and usable when on the move.

Metal accents are combined with more soft-touch materials than before, while greater soundproofing measures have been adopted in order to make the cabin quieter.

The photos also reveal a bolder front end with a lower and wider “tiger nose” grille, new headlights and two groups of four round LED daytime running lights on each side of the redesigned front bumper. The wheel arches are also bolder than before.

Kia says the new Sportage offers greater space and improved passenger comfort thanks to the increased dimensions. Headroom has increased for both front and rear passengers, while maximum legroom has also increased.

As before, the car will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines with front- and all-wheel drive.

It’s set to hit showroom as the start of 2016.
