Jaguar is to make a spectacular entrance into the luxury performance estate car market with the XFR-S Sportbrake.
Due to be officially unveiled at next week’s Geneva motor show, the Sportbrake shares the same engine as the barnstorming XFR-S saloon: a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 developing 542bhp.
With supercar-baiting performance statistics, including a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds, the XFR-S Sportbrake will do battle against the Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake and Audi RS6 when sales begin in April.
However, unlike its German rivals, which are electronically limited to 155mph, the Sportbrake will romp on all the way up to 186mph.
That monstrous engine sends power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with the same ‘Quickshift’ technology as previously seen on the F-Type sports car, which is designed to respond in an instant to inputs on the steering-wheel mounted shift paddles.
As befits its range-topping status, the Sportbrake wears subtly aggressive bodywork and sits on 20-inch forged alloy wheels as standard. Five colours are available: Ultra Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Polaris White and Italian Racing Red.
The cabin also receives a sporting makeover, with carbon-fibre trim inserts and black leather sports seats with contrasting stitching.
The new XFR-S Sportbrake will cost £82,495 when it arrives in showrooms in just over a month. If you can’t wait that long you can search our classifieds for a used XF here.
