Drivers of black cars deemed “better lovers”

How long do you agonise over what colour car to go for? You may think that colour is a small consideration for most drivers, however, new research has found that the shade of car owners opt for gives a good insight into how they behave behind the wheel.

Those who drive a black car claim that they are “risk takers and better lovers” and are prone to road rage, a survey of 1,550 new car drivers has found. The research carried out by Flexed.co.uk discovered that the colour drivers choose can reveal a number of character traits, with cars working as an extension of motorists’ personalities, Yahoo reports.

People who were buying or leasing executive cars preferred black because they thought it befitted their status. That’s why you see so many business types driving black BMWs and Audis.

In contrast to drivers of black cars, people who own silver cars are often safer on the road, more mature and less likely to be involved in an accident. Colour can also reveal how extroverted owners are: Brown car drivers are likely to be introverted and considered as dull, though people who own a red car are much more extroverted, likely to drive faster and prone to being overconfident when behind the wheel.

The happiest – and most polite – motorists are those who drive a blue car while green car owners are less concerned about other people’s opinions and unlikely to let other cars out of junctions. Green car owners were also deemed less concerned about being seen to be stylish.

Spokesman for Flexed, Mark Hall, said: “We found that people who were buying or leasing executive cars preferred black because they thought it befitted their status. That’s why you see so many business types driving black BMWs and Audis.”
