BMW reveals 2 Series Coupe

October 25, 2013 | By | In News

BMW has released the first images of its new 2 Series Coupe ahead of its official public debut at the Detroit motor show in January.

Following the current BMW trend of giving two-door models their own nomenclature, the 2 Series is the successor to the old 1 Series Coupe. It will reach UK showrooms in March.

At its launch, the 2 Series will be available in 2.0-litre petrol and diesel configurations, badged 220i and 220d respectively, and starting at just over £25,000. The performance range-topper, badged M235i and powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, will also be available immediately, priced from £34,250.

A further two diesel models, the 218d and 225d are also expected to join the lineup in May. A convertible version will also follow in the second half of 2014.

The 2 Series will be fitted as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, and a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic will be offered as an option.

In terms of styling, the 2 Series moves away from the rather abrupt, stumpy styling of the old 1 Series, and more closely follows the more curvaceous styling of the new, bigger 4 Series. It has a wider grille, larger headlamps and a visually extended bonnet giving it greater road presence.

The cabin is largely carried over from the current generation 1 Series, but will feature some fresh styling elements in order to differentiate the 2 Series from its hatchback sibling.

Buyers will be able to choose from the familiar trim levels: SE, Sport, Modern and M Sport, with each boasting unique styling details both inside and out, on top of the varying levels of equipment.
