British manufacturer Bentley has revealed the latest generation of its much-lauded grand tourer – the Continental GT.
As the third generation of the Continental, this model has taken design inspiration from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car that was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show last year, and although it is similar in shape to the second generation, it is still fresh.
For the third version, Bentley has remodelled the structure so it is lighter and stiffer than before, and the engine has been moved further back for improved weight distribution. The chassis has also been altered as Bentley has fitted an adaptive Dynamic Ride System so the driver can change the feel to their preference.
Under the bonnet Bentley has fitted a 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 petrol engine producing 626bhp and 664 lb/ft of torque, which means the GT can get from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 207mph. To optimise the engine’s potential, it is paired with a dual-clutch, eight-speed transmission.
As usual, the Continental seats four people in supreme comfort and the interior is as premium as you would expect, with 15 leather colour options for the upholstery and new technological features. These include a 12.3-inch touchscreen that revolves out of the dashboard and three choices of premium sound systems.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley, said: “Bentley has been at the forefront of luxury grand touring for nearly 100 years. The new, third-generation Continental GT is the pinnacle of our design and engineering achievements and marks the next step in Bentley’s journey.
“We are the world leader in luxury mobility and our products and services define new luxury in the automotive world. The new Continental GT encapsulates our desire to innovate as well as celebrate our heritage and take the Bentley ownership experience to the next, unparalleled level.”
The third-generation Continental GT will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 14.
