The North American International Auto Show, otherwise known as the Detroit Motor Show, was held early this year, previewing new car launches for 2016. Following a successful year in 2015 with new car sales, 2016 looks to follow suit with new car registrations in January at an 11 year high. With a whole host of new cars from SUVs to supercars being released, 2016 is set to be an exciting year in the automotive industry.
We’ve put together a roundup of the top five most exciting cars being launched this year:
The Jaguar F-Pace kicks off our list. This is the first SUV Jaguar has put into production and enters into fierce competition in the marketplace. The F-Pace promises to mix the performance of an SUV with the DNA of a sports car with pace, energy and strength. State of the art technology, including the optional head-up display and activity key, will make journeys easier and more relaxed. This vehicle has been highly anticipated and looks set to fulfil its hype.
The Kia Optima is now in its fourth generation and offers a higher-quality interior, plus improved ride and seat comfort. It features cutting edge technology including an optional wireless mobile phone charging capability. This takes the form of a charging pad located in a compartment in front of the gear stick which allows the car to notify you if you leave a compatible device on the pad when you get out. The Optima will be available with a 1.7 litre diesel engine or as a plug-in hybrid.
This car is set to be a rival to the BMW 5 Series. The E-Class will be the first Mercedes with the capability to be upgraded wirelessly through a software download and comes with the brand's latest autonomous driving tech. Touch sensitive buttons have been added to the steering wheel, which respond to horizontal and vertical swipes, similar to a smartphone. This will allow the driver to control the infotainment without taking their hands off the wheel. Previous models of the E-Class have been top sellers in the past and the 2016 generation looks to be no different.
4.Aston Martin DB11
The DB11 is the newest offering from the British classic Aston Martin. Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, it featured in the latest James Bond film, ‘Spectre’. The DB11 carries the typical cool and slick style that Aston Martin is known for. A successor to the DB9, it will have a new 5.2 litre twin turbocharged V12 engine boasting a huge 600 brake horsepower.
5.Lamborghini Huracan Spyder
The Lamborghini lives up to its reputation for manufacturing supercars with the Huracan Spyder. The 5.2 litre V10 engine creates a deafening sound to match the stylish, low lying, sporty design. With a four-wheel drive system and 602 break horsepower, it accelerates from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 201mph. In addition, it features an electric soft-top roof that can fold away in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph.
