Aston Martin reveal Vantage GT8

Aston Martin have historically always taken cues from its racing cars in its road vehicles and has pushed this even further – with the Vantage GT8.

Using technology found in the V8 Vantage GTE race car, the Vantage GT8 is hardcore road car, with full aerodynamically-shaped carbon fibre bodywork and a track-honed chassis. Powering the GT8 is a 4.7-litre V8, which can be specified with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Carbon fibre is also used on the front splitter, front and rear bumpers as well as a rear diffuser. The GT8 is distinguishable from a standard Vantage by its cutaway front wheel arches, as well as new five-spoke alloy wheels. Three special paint schemes are available – China Grey and Blue, Stratus White and Stirling Green and Lime.

Lightness is the name of the game for the GT8, which means that a carbon fibre roof and polycarbonate rear screen are used to keep the car’s kerb weight down. However, air conditioning, a full audio system and infotainment system are still including the make the GT8 liveable.

Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “Road cars are our business, but racing is the beating heart of Aston Martin. The Vantage GT8 expresses that combination perfectly: an authentic and unashamedly extreme road car that draws directly from our Le Mans racing programme to amplify the inherent dynamism that has long made the Vantage such a fine sports car.

“Beautifully engineered and set-up to be equally at home on a fabulous road or demanding race track, the Vantage GT8 is a driver’s car in the truest sense of the word.”

Incredible though it is, the Vantage GT8 retails at a hefty £165,000, with production limited to just 150.
