Silverstone Classic Festivities

Fans of the Silverstone Classic motor racing festival (26-28 July) have hailed Eric Clapton the greatest guitarist in the history of rock music.

Nearly two thousand motoring fans answered the poll on the official Silverstone Classic website.

Although renowned as the world’s biggest motoring festival, the annual event has an equally far-reaching reputation for its live music concerts – hence it’s ‘Rocking and Racing’ motto.

“It’s clear from the results that Silverstone Classic fans are just as knowledgeable about classic rock guitarists as they are about classic racing cars,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “I’m not sure what sounds best: the roar of a Ferrari V12 or a well-known Gibson guitar riff.”

Clapton came top of the poll ahead of fierce competition, including Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Pete Townsend, Keith Richards and well known car-lover and motoring enthusiast, Slash.

The first of three Gibson guitars being given away to festival-goes this year has been awarded to Hari Denton from London, who took part in the online poll.

“I am absolutely chuffed to bits,” Mr. Denton said. “I cannot wait to get my hands on my prize, and at the Silverstone Classic no less!”

The prize presentation will take place on the festival’s main stage on Saturday 27th July – but there are still two more guitars up for grabs.

Festival goers can enter a special draw in Silverstone Classic’s shopping village for a chance to win one of the two remaining prizes.
