Volkswagen has given its compact MPV, the Touran, a mid-life makeover. First it gets the new-style VW family nose, as seen on the Golf, Scirocco and Polo. And, although much else stays as-is, it gets a new tailgate, rear bumper and lights, too.
Inside there’s a new wheel and centre console, while the instruments lose their blue backlit glow – it now changes to white. Engines offered are new or reworked versions of what was previously available.
The engine range will now take in two diesels and two petrols. A 1.2 104bhp petrol unit replaces the current 1.6, while there is also a 138bhp 1.4 petrol turbo. A new 1.6 turbodiesel comes in two stages of tune: 89bhp and 104bhp. There is also a Bluemotion model using the 104bhp version of this engine, which is capable of 61mpg overall. There is also a 2.0 diesel available with 138bhp or 168bhp.
There is also an upgraded version of Volkswagen’s Park Assist system that’ll automatically park a car end-on (as in a multi-storey) as well as reverse parallel-park. Sales start in September and deliveries begin a month later. Prices will run from £17,000.
