GTC Concept car hints at 2011's Astra coupe

The five-door version of the latest Vauxhall Astra has been with us for some months. But if you want a three-door Astra the only option on sale now is the previous-shape car that has been on sale for six years.

A next generation model is coming, but not until next year. However, the GTC concept, unveiled today at the Paris Motor Show, gives a strong hint of what the newcomer will look like. Its designer Mark Adams describes the car as ‘bold, pure and iconic’ in appearance, yet it remains practical enough to house five occupants plus luggage.

Inside the cabin features sweeping lines and shapes and uses fabric colours boldly to create a ‘positive-negative’ effect. The leather-wrapped black steering wheel has metal inserts while the dash carries the ’wing’ and ‘blade’ design motifs first seen in the Insignia family hatchback, estate and saloon.
