Mercedes-Maybach has revealed a teaser of a new concept vehicle that will debut at Pebble Beach next week.
There’s precious little information about the luxury car at this point, other than the fact it’s six metres long. That means it’s on a par with the extended wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom – and therefore very long indeed.
Maybach is Mercedes-Benz’s ultra-luxury division and its cars are displays of wealth, pure and simple. Often favoured by politicians and industry heads, there are extensive levels of customisation on offer.
From the darkened teaser image, we can see that it is a two-door coupe, though it’s probably safe to speculate there will be four seats inside based purely on the size of the thing.
The last time Maybach revealed a concept car it was 2004’s Excelero. That was a V12 sports car designed to be a modern interpretation of a 1930s luxury car, and we can expect this updated version to follow a similar theme.
It’s likely that the concept will use the Mercedes-Maybach S600L’s 6.0-litre, bi-turbo V12, which makes a healthy 523bhp. Still, if it weighs as much as that car, which tips the scales at nearly 2.5-tonnes, performance is likely to be sedate rather than gut-wrenching.
Rumours suggest that this car will be a longer, wider and more luxurious coupe designed to sit above the S-Class Coupe in Mercedes’ range, so expect it to start in excess of £200,000 – and that’s before options.
